1st annual MM27 Road Hockey Tournament raises over $2,000

On Saturday, June 17th, McFadden’s Movement hosted the first annual MM27 Road Hockey Tournament in support of mental health resources at Centennial Collegiate & Vocational Institute in Guelph. The tournament welcomed 25 teams spread across four different age groups, including players as young as 10-years-old, with the oldest division set at birth-years 1998 and older.

The tournament also saw various former, current, and future Guelph Storm players come out to support a good cause, including former captains Matt Finn, Jason Dickinson, and C.J. Garcia, and more 2014 Ontario Hockey League Champions such as Brock McGinn, Scott Kosmachuk, Zac Leslie, and Justin Nichols. Other names in attendance were Ryan Merkley, Mason Primeau, Givani Smith, James McEwan, Guelph Storm Assistant Coach Luca Caputi, Matt Hotchkiss, Liam Herbst, Cedric Ralph, and Nick Deakin-Poot.

Despite the tournament coming to an early end just as the playoff rounds were beginning due to a severe thunderstorm, MM27 – with the help of 100 players and over 20 volunteers – saw its first annual road hockey tournament surpass the $2,000 fundraising mark, in addition to continuing to raise awareness for mental health.

McFadden’s Movement would like to extend a special thank-you to the following sponsors for helping make this tournament a possibility, and a success:

  • Linamar
  • Home Hardware (Rockwood)
  • Guelph Storm Hockey Club
  • DirectSave
  • Guelph Police Association
  • Spanky’s BBQ & Catering
  • Booster Juice Guelph
  • VIA Rail Canada
  • Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment
  • Hockey Hall of Fame
  • Guelph Museums
  • River Run
  • Bird Kingdom Niagara Falls Ltd.

Beyond sponsors, MM27 recognizes this event would have never happened without the support of so many volunteers who spent the day helping in any way possible. To all of those who volunteered their time to referee, sell raffle tickets and MM27 hats, control parking, chase after balls, and so much more, MM27 thanks you.

Finally, to all of those who registered a team and came out to play, MM27 appreciates your support and hopes to see you all back again next year!
