McFadden’s Movement has cancelled the upcoming fourth annual MM27 Road Hockey Tournament scheduled to take place at Centennial Collegiate & Vocational Institute (CCVI) on June 6, 2020. Although a very disappointing and difficult decision to come to, MM27 recognizes that it is the right thing to do amidst the concerns surrounding COVID-19 and the general health and safety of everyone in the Guelph community and beyond.
This decision parallels the advice of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health after announcing all City of Guelph recreation centres, libraries, museums and theatres remain closed until April 30 to slow the spread of COVID-19. All scheduled programs, performances and events at City facilities are cancelled through July 5, 2020. More information on this announcement can be found here.
The MM27 Road Hockey Tournament has been a huge success since the inaugural event in June 2017. The Movement cannot thank everyone involved enough for making that happen year after year, and who were more enthusiastic than ever to make that happen once again this June.
With that, the Movement understands the importance of mental health and coming together in times like these and have already begun planning an online hockey tournament to take place on June 6th instead. MM27 will keep everyone up-to-date as this online event develops, and hope we can make it just as big of a success as the road hockey tournament has been in the past!
If you and / or your teams began fundraising for the MM27 Road Hockey Tournament this year, the Movement encourages you to hang on to those funds ahead of the upcoming online event we are currently planning. Mental health resources need us now more than ever, and MM27 is going to do its best to continue to support entities such as WES for Youth Online and the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Waterloo-Wellington as they work to help our communities during this time.
