MM27 donates $25,000 to WES for Youth Online & CMHA Waterloo-Wellington, bringing running total to $128,000 donated

On October 10, McFadden’s Movement, with the support of the Guelph Storm and captain Braeden Bowman, recognized World Mental Health Day with a donation of $25,000 – $12,500 each – to WES for Youth Online and the Canadian Mental Health Association, Waterloo-Wellington branch. The donation brings the running total donated by the Movement to $128,000 over seven years.

The contribution was made possible largely due to the record breaking success of the Movement’s third annual Celebrity Charity Classic presented by Skyjack on July 21. The golf tournament, with yet another incredible showing of support from sponsors, former and current teammates, and participants and volunteers, raised over $27,000.

“We are really excited to be able to say we have donated $25,000 for two straight years, but even more excited to keep working together with two great resources who are making a tremendous difference in our communities,” Garrett McFadden, founder of McFadden’s Movement, said. “We cannot thank everyone who has helped us raise money, contributed time, money, and anything else we’ve needed over the past year and beyond enough. We’re already looking forward to next year with the hope and goal of surpassing this year’s total.”

Reaching $128,000 donated began following the 2016-17 campaign – the Movement’s first year running – with a $6,000 donation, only to be followed up with $20,000 in 2018. The Movement also donated $1,000 to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) in support of the Humboldt Broncos tragic bus accident that same year. In 2019, McFadden made his second consecutive $20,000 donation, bringing the total donated to $47,000 in less than three years. In 2020, in the face of cancelling the MM27 Road Hockey Tournament and what was to be the inaugural MM27 Celebrity Charity Classic, the Movement managed to donate $10,000 to mental health resources. In 2021, the Movement picked up its momentum once again, donating another $20,000, only to follow it up with its single highest donation total of $25,000 for the first time in 2022.

“We are deeply honoured to be one of the recipients of funds raised through McFadden’s Movement,” Megan Brady, Communications Specialist for CMHA Waterloo-Wellington, shared. “To see the impact Garrett and the Movement have had over the course of six years is incredible. Not only through raising funds but also through important conversations about mental health, McFadden’s Movement has had a far-reaching ripple effect in our community. We are beyond grateful!

WES for Youth Online echoed CMHA Waterloo-Wellington’s sentiments following the 2023 donation:

“WES for Youth Online would like to extend our sincerest thanks to everyone that helped make this year’s donation possible,” Emmaline Drewett, WES for Youth Online’s Fundraising Coordinator, said. “Year over year support of events such as the MM27 Celebrity Charity Classic allows us to continue providing ongoing, free mental health support to Ontario youth. We are focusing forward to better youth mental health, together.”

The Movement extends a very gracious thank-you to everyone who has provided support all ways, shapes, and forms to the Movement’s goal of raising funds and ultimately awareness for mental health resources. The success experienced over the last seven years would not be possible without the help of so many.
